MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

Research Interests: Ammonia Combustion, Plasma-assisted Combustion, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Non-thermal Plasma Modeling, Laser Spectroscopy

Luis Fernando received his bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering in 2013 from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali, Colombia, and his MS degree in Aerospace Engineering from Universidad del Valle, Colombia in 2021. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate at West Virginia University under the direction of Dr. Omid Askari at Plasma, Combustion and Fluid Imaging (PCFi) Lab and Dr. Cosmin Dumitrescu at the Advanced Combustion Lab (ACL). He is working on experimental and numerical ammonia plasma-assisted combustion (PAC) in both high-pressure combustion vessels and internal combustion engines. Through advanced combustion measurement techniques and numerical simulations, he is researching flame burning speed, ignition delay time and emissions in order to determine the capability of the plasma in enhancing ammonia ignition and combustion performance.

He also enjoys reading books and playing basketball.

Research interests:

  • Ammonia Combustion
  • Plasma-assisted Combustion
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Non-thermal Plasma Modeling
