MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

Research Interests: High-Pressure Ignition, Laminar Burning Speed, Thermal Plasma Modeling, Glow/Arc Discharge, Laser Spectroscopy

James Shaffer received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2020 from Mississippi State University. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate at West Virginia University under direction of Dr. Omid Askari at Plasma, Combustion and Fluid Imaging (PCFi) Lab. He is working on advanced combustion diagnostics and measurement techniques. He is currently researching the early flame propagation to better understand and quantify the affect ignition has on flame speed.

Beside combustion he is also interested in fishing, kayaking and trailing.

Research interests:

  • High-Pressure Ignition
  • Laminar Burning Speed
  • Thermal Plasma Modeling
  • Glow/Arc Discharge
  • Laser Spectroscopy
